The Chicago Tribune is reporting that two north suburban Chicago men have been arrested for fraud in a scam involving Titleist golf balls. The two men, who resided in Deerfield and Buffalo Grove, were arrested for allegedly taking more than $400,000 in payments for personalized golf balls which they never delivered. The men ran their scam from shell companies called Iconic Concepts and Bellamax. These companies were located across the northern suburbs, including in one building just down the street from Northstar. (Needless to say, we have never done business with them.) They 'sold' the $3 balls to companies and charitable organizations for less than a dollar a piece - and then never delivered. They have also been accused of ordering thousands of sample balls from distributors and never paying. This story highlights the case for ordering your promotional products from a WELL-ESTABLISHED, trustworthy supplier. Iconic Concepts/Bellamax had only been in business for one year, changing locations three times, and soliciting business primarily via the internet. On the other hand, The Northstar Group has been in business at one location since 1993, with friendly service available by phone, email or in-person. It's like your mamma always said - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Link www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/11/two-men-charged-in-north-suburban-golf-ball-scam.html |
